I Looked For Good Cycling Apparel Reviews, But Found Only Sales Pitches, So...

I've done the work myself. Where were the cycling apparel reviews that considered various materials and designs? I'd look up 'bike shorts' and all I could find was a sales listing. What I really wanted to know was the difference between six panel and eight panel shorts.

What about bicycle helmets?

So I switched to bike helmets and found a Google listing by a guy who claimed to have tried them all personally. Well the link to his site didn't work. Then I started to wonder if he'd actually rammed his head into a wall while wearing each of the brain buckets. I doubt it. Were the reviews based on how they fit his head? If my head is shaped differently than his I'd most likely not benefit much. More frustration!

How about you? Are you finding the cycling apparel info you're looking for?

Here's another one... We'd just finished an hour and a half of pedaling up the side of Mt Shasta. The guy I was riding with informed me that he hadn't washed his retro wool cycling jersey for over ten rides and it still didn't stink. I didn't sniff his armpits to be sure, but it seemed he was right. He wasn't stinking up the hillside. Is it true that wool doesn't stink as much as the modern materials?

That's the kind of research I wanted to see. That's the kind of cycling apparel info you'll get here at this site.

What about cycling gloves? Do they use Sorbothane in the palm padding? During my days as a runner, Sorbothane was touted to be the material that most closely duplicates the padding on the bottom of the feet. If that's true it seems it would be very effective as padding in cycling gloves. Especially if you steer with your toes.

I think you'll find these cycling apparel findings to be interesting. I know that you'll find them to make your riding more comfortable...and safer as well.

So spend some time looking over the various cycling apparel categories and see what's the latest on bicycle clothing, cycling shoes, bike shorts and other bicycle accessories (like bike trainers).

Now here's some good news! While most of us agree that most cycling apparel lacks for universal appeal (understated for maximum effect), there is an accessory that's cool in any setting...namely cycling sun glasses.

After you go to some of the product pages and read through them (especially my bike shorts page) you'll probably wonder what's up with the knucklehead who's writing this stuff. So here we go...

Hi...I'm Ron Fritzke, and I'm passionate about cycling. It wasn't always this way. I used to be intense about running. That is, until I tore my Achilles tendon while running speedwork with my son.

Well, after trying off and on to run on it for over four years I've had to conclude that there will be no more running for me. So like the pirates used to sing... Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, it's the cyclist's world for me.

I say I was intense about running, but a lot people slogging around Central Park say the same thing. So here's a short rendition of my running bio (not the long version that I recite each and every Thanksgiving when all the relatives are held captive by a turkey dinner).

My high school running days ended in 1975 with me running the 18th fastest 2-mile in the USA for that year. I then went to college on a track and cross-country scholarship. After college I ran for Adidas, running the Boston marathon in 2:17, and culminated my competitive running career in 1984 by running in the USA Olympic trials marathon. So why do I tell you all this?

Because I bring the same intensity and passion that I had for running into just about anything I do (you should see me take out the garbage). Now that I've discovered cycling, I've been scouring the information highway for information about cycling apparel. That's where you come in...

If you care to learn what I've been finding out, you're welcome here in my crazy world!

I've lived in Mount Shasta, California since 1987 and now ride with a group called Mount Shasta Pedali. We have a great time hammering the roads and this year I was honored to receive their 'Rookie of the Year' award.

In the spirit of good sportsmanship I wanted to accept it on behalf of all of the Mount Shasta Pedali rookies. But there weren't any others besides myself...

Happy Cycling!
